The Armstrong County Museum of Claude is proud to share the art of Norma Hinkle from Pampa during January and February in their Art Gallery. Norma held the distinction of being Pampa’s Fine Arts Artist of the Year for 2010. She creates with both oils and water colors. Her work is often called “nostalgic” because much of it is rustic and heart-warming. Much of her work is available for purchase. A reception will be hosted to introduce Norma Hinkle and her fine art work on Saturday, February 4, at 6:30 p.m., in the Armstrong County Museum Art Gallery in Claude. The reception will be followed by a lively performance in the Gem Theatre at 7:30 p.m.
Norma’s refreshing art work can be viewed in the Art Gallery anytime during Museum business hours, 12 – 4 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday weekly. The Museum is located at 110 N. Trice St. just off the Square in Claude. The phone is 806/226-2187. Don’t miss the opportunity to visit the Museum, drink in the nostalgic art of Norma Hinkle through February, and attend the reception on February 4. |

Ivan has a new CD and will probably play many of the same numbers in the show that are on the CD.He was raised up in a farm and ranch environment with music on both sides of the family. He enjoys all types of music, especially Bob Wills and Buck Ramsey Western swing and cowboy songs. He writes poetry, songs and stories about the cowboy and American Indian cultures.

The Texas Gypsies are an award-winning band with a unique and eclectic style and sound all their own! Able to mix violin, horns, and guitars, the band can perform a variety of styles such as: classic big band music (Sinatra, Bennett), European Parisian swing(Django Reinhardt), New Orleans jazz, Texas swing (Bob Wills), or Texas blues, plus many original compositions and their own take on pop classics! They can perform from 4 to 8 members, dress in 30s-40s attire, and their show features both instrumental and vocal songs both artistic and also fun!! Band members lecture and demonstrate the styles that spun off from this classic American jazz, like Texas swing and Gypsy jazz.

| July 7, 2012 -- The E-Flat Porch Band |

is named for the porch in McKinney, Texas, where the members practiced—- it resonates to the key of E-flat. Audiences are entertained with a unique blend of acoustic “porch music,” including folk, blues, jazz, early country, and original tunes. This “porch” band is visually exciting too, with multiple instruments played at one time, including one made out of a wooden soda pop box. Known for their fun delivery and quick wit, this band takes their music seriously without taking themselves too seriously. You will enjoy learning about our rich Texas musical heritage. ''Typical'' programs include Texas blues including Freddie King’s ''Tore Down,'' Leadbelly’s ''Midnight Special,'' swing jazz like ''Route 66,'' Woody Guthrie’s Dust Bowl tunes, and songs by Texas songwriters including Townes Van Zandt. Traditional tunes by legendary Texas blues artists highlight playing styles like the “dead thumb” technique of Mance Lipscomb and the slide mastery of Blind Willie Johnson. Band members are songwriters too; performances include their original songs such as ''Havana Blues.''

The Elision Saxophone Quartet is celebrating their 20th season. Their repertoire includes music from around the world that is expertly played on four horns (soprano, alto, tenor and baritone saxophones), by highly educated, virtuosic, and traveled musicians. ESQ is available for concerts, residencies, symphony collaborations, and lectures in composition and arranging, ensemble coaching, and jazz history and improvisation. In addition, ESQ is dedicated to cultivating the next generation of chamber musicians as evidenced by their work in arts in education workshops, seminars, and masterclass. Their repertoire includes a diversity of styles that include baroque, classical, romantic, contemporary, jazz, swing, blues, Celtic, Latin, klezmer, dixieland, and bebop. In addition, they offer musical programs for all holiday seasons. ESQ programs repertoire according to the needs and wants of presenters and audiences. The JA Ranch was the first ranch established in the Palo Duro Canyon. Originally created by the Panhandle Plains Museum, this display is now a permanent display in the Armstrong County Museum. While visiting the museum, you can also see the works of photographer George Williams. Visiting hours are Tuesday through Saturday 12:00 to 4:00 PM. Admission is Free, Donations Welcomed. |

The Almost Patsy Cline Band is known for preserving country music’s past with stirring, heartfelt renditions and stories about the best of yesteryear like Patsy Cline, Bob Wills, Johnny Cash, Ray Price, Mel Tillis, Merle Haggard, Connie Smith, and other superstars of the Opry. This talented five-piece group could just as easily have been named for ''almost'' any country and western star of the '40s, '50s, 6'0s, or '70s because they showcase hits from all of them. Bandera's award winning Official Goodwill Ambassadors have been filling theaters and dance floors throughout Texas since 2001. ''Timeless Tunes: The Stories and the Songs'' is a collection of classic country music brought to life through a narration of fun, educational facts. This interactive show begins with the story of how four country songs came to have the same tune and moves through the birth of Western Swing, the Bakersfield sound, and reflects Patsy Cline’s music as it mirrored her life. Features tributes to veterans and longest married couples in attendance.

The historic Gem Theatre opened as a movie theater October 8, 1915. Initially named the Claudia Theatre, it was renamed as the Rialto in the 1920's and it became the Gem Theatre in the 1930's.
Since 1997 the Gem Theatre has been a ''Presenting Theatre'' for the Texas Commission on the Arts. This means that Texas Touring Artists from the Commission on the Arts Touring Artists Roster can have fee support when performing at the Gem Theatre in Claude, Texas. The Gem Theatre is a very family friendly theater and we look forward to having you celebrat the 95th year of the Gem Theatre. |
