September 11, 2010 -- The Gimbles
The Gimbles are three generations of musicians rolled up in one Texas-style symphony of swing and country music. Emily, Dick, and Johnny Gimble are each powerhouse musicians in their own right but together as a family package they resonate with the very roots of Western swing, while looking forward to the future by adding a fresh and vibrant new vocal sound. Still, while the lineage of this tuneful threesome is beyond impressive, it is their music that carries the day. The Gimbles' program is a mix of Texas (western) swing, their version of some standards from the 30s & 40s that swing, a little bit of Texas roots country, and a healthy dose of humor.

October 2, 2010 -- ''Alias Jimmy Valentine,''The First Movie shown in the Claudia Theatre in 1915--Now the Gem Theatre,See Matinee showing at 6:00 PM
For years we have been telling audiences at the Gem Theatre that the first performance at the Gem was a movie, ''Alias Jimmy Valentine.'' We now have a copy of the ''world class'' silent movie that appeared in the historic Gem Theatre in 1915. '' Based on a story by O. Henry here is what is known about this early film:...................... A crime doesn’t pay urban melodrama, Alias Jimmy Valentine may seem a contrarian selection to spotlight among the films of a director acclaimed for pictures of rural Americana, but it is fully the artistic equal of his better known works. Alias Jimmy Valentine is about a reformed safecracker, his confederates, the woman he falls in love with and the detective who wants to bring him to justice. Although the plot is as melodramatic as that character line-up suggests, it is told with such verve and unfolds at such a lively pace that it feels almost modern. Tourneur’s direction is masterful, particularly in the editing rhythm and the composition of figures and objects within each scene. The costumes and props are the only things that date the movie to 1915. It is years ahead of the artistic standards of its day. That is nowhere more pronounced than in the remarkably naturalistic performances by the principals, especially the actors playing the safecracker and his friends. The engaging performances and the enduring appeal of the crime movie story (there’s even a bank heist!) make Alias Jimmy Valentine a great introduction to Tourneur and to the films of the early feature era. This was the opening film at the historic Gem Theatre, then known as the ''Claudia,'' in 1915. Performance 6:00 PM followed with a concert by the ''Almost Patsy Cline Band'' at 7:30. Artist reception in the Art Gallery at 6:30.

October 2, 2010 -- The Almost Patsy Cline Band from Bandera, Texas at 7:30 PM
The Official Goodwill Ambassadors of Bandera, Texas, The Almost Patsy Cline Band presents a variety of traditional music with a focus on preserving the legacy of vocalists like Patsy Cline, Bob Wills, Elvis, and other artists of that era. Rockabilly, pop, country, western swing, folk, and classic rock are all part of the cultural traditions celebrated by this versatile five-piece group. Nobody’s music had more heart or created more memories than greats of the past like Patsy Cline, Bob Wills, Waylon Jennings, Chuck Berry, and Elvis. Remember a time when every note was moving, energetic, and sincere? Things were simple then. The Almost Patsy Cline Band will captivate and transport you to that simpler time when you could dance the night away without a care. Consummate musical professionals, handpicked for their incredible talents, members of The Almost Patsy Cline Band have received widespread critical acclaim, both locally and nationally... and when you hear them, you’ll know why. Admission $8.00 for adults and $2.00 for child K-12.

October 16, 2010 -- The Rolling Road Show Sceening of HUD on North Trice St. in Claude, Texas (After Dark???)
As a part of the anniversary celebrations for the museum and the Gem Theatre, there will be a (big screen in the street) showing of HUD, the movie that was filmed in Claude in 1962, shown in the Gem in 1963. This showing will start at dusk. In the show, Hud Bannon is a ruthless young man who tarnishes everything and everyone he touches. Hud represents the perfect embodiment of alienated youth, out for kicks with no regard for the consequences. There is bitter conflict between the callous Hud and his stern and highly principled father, Homer. Hud's nephew Lon admires Hud's cheating ways, though he soon becomes aware of Hud's reckless amorality to bear him anymore. In the world of the takers and the taken, Hud is a winner. He's a cheat, but, he explains ''I always say the law was meant to be interpreted in a lenient manner.'' Cast * Paul Newman as Hud Bannon * Melvyn Douglas as Homer Bannon * Patricia Neal as Alma Brown * Brandon de Wilde as Lon 'Lonnie' Bannon * John Ashley as Hermy * Whit Bissell as Burris Admission is Free. Donations will be welcomed. Festivities will begin at 6:PM. People may visit the museum, the Art Gallery or see the shows ''Alias Jimmy Valentine'' and ''Old Texas.'' in the Gem. Vendors will be selling food on the street and HUD will begin at dusk. Bring your lawn chairs and have a great time fun, food and fellowship. Free Admission to all, but as always donations are welcomed.

November 13, 2010 -- The Texas Gypsies
Imagine this: you're in a quaint Parisian cafe listening to a delightful acoustic combo. The air is filled with songs, some familiar, some exotic and intriguing. You're caught up in the music as lightning-fast guitar runs dart in and out of beautiful violin melodies. The rhythm guitarist is strumming his guitar with fiery abandon while the bassist slaps a rhythm that your feet can't resist. You have entered the world of The Texas Gypsies! The band's show combines the sounds of European swing (gypsy jazz) from the pre-World War II era along with the traditional Texas western swing sound. This includes the standard songs of the 1920-40s along with some of today's well-known songs done in this style, and also many original compositions. The show is exciting with lively music and great musicianship!
